A Blind Tasting of Cabernet Franc
The Lucas & Lewellen Tasting Room
As part of Vintners Festival Weekend, we're doing something that makes wineries nervous.
Following our recent blind tasting of Clone 667 Pinot Noirs, where our 2021 Goodchild "High 9" Pinot Noir earned a solid second place against a lineup of significantly more expensive wines, we're putting another one of our wines to the test.
This time, the focus is Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc is one of the wine world's most intriguing varieties, capable of producing wines that are elegant, savory, aromatic, and surprisingly expressive of place. Yet it often lives in the shadow of Cabernet Sauvignon. This evening gives it center stage.
Guests will taste six Cabernet Francs completely blind, including Lucas & Lewellen's own estate-grown Cabernet Franc. The wines will all have something in common, whether it be a 100% varietal bottling, all from the same region, or a vintage year. They will certainly all carry a higher price tag than Lucas & Lewellen.
Will our Cabernet Franc steal the show again? We honestly don't know. That's what makes it interesting. And what makes us a little nervous. The available Lucas & Lewellen principals, Mike Lewellen, Louis Lucas, or Winemaker Megan McGrath Gates, will taste along with guests, rank them, and try to guess which one they made. It's harder than it sounds!
Join us for an evening of discovery, conversation, and a little friendly suspense as we celebrate Vintners Festival Weekend the only way we know how - by putting the wine first.
$49 for members and their guests. $59 each for non-members. 25 seats only. Members get first access to tickets.
